Jason “Jay” Kotzker
A trusted expert in Intellectual Property, Cannabis, and Internet Law issues, Jay represents professionals in the snow sports, IT, fashion, counter culture, cannabis, hemp, restaurant, entertainment, and online communities. Mr. Kotzker also serves as outside general counsel to retail, start-up, e-commerce, cannabis, and Internet based companies.
Mr. Kotzker combines his education with hands-on experience, which provides him with strong, up to date knowledge of the issues that face our increasingly online-driven world.
Jay is experienced in all areas of intellectual property and cannabis law, including brand development and protection; guiding clients through cannabis business licensing, compliance, and operational issues. With respect to cannabis compliance, Jay has been an active participant in various state and local stakeholder working groups, which are vital to the drafting and revising of state and local laws affecting cannabis businesses. Jay is an expert advisor for supported businesses on legal developments and regulations affecting production, transportation, microbial, potency and pesticide testing, and compliant handling and sale of cannabis and cannabis products. He has drafted numerous Standard Operating Procedures affecting pesticide use, green waste and legal compliance touching all areas of compliant cannabis business operations.
Mr. Kotzker is also strong supporter of innovative ideas and an entrepreneurial spirit, and has focused on helping new startups and emerging companies with their corporate, intellectual property, and Internet Law needs. With connections to members working in all corners of the Internet, entrepreneurial and startup communities, he goes beyond the basics of his role as legal counsel to connect people who could mutually benefit from an introduction or interaction. Mr. Kotzker is committed to creating and fostering relationships that lead to the growth and success of each of his clients.
Mr. Kotzker holds a bachelor’s degree in History from North Carolina State University. He later went on to receive his law degree from St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, FL as well as a masters of laws specializing in Intellectual Property from The George Washington University Law School in Washington, DC. He is licensed to practice law in both Colorado and New York.
When Jay is not in the office he enjoys spending time with his wife, three children, coaching soccer, mentoring high schoolers and enjoying all of the outdoor activities Colorado has to offer.
